Nikon’s next mirrorless lens announcement is likely to be the Nikkor Z 70-200mm f/2.8 S

Tips & Techniques

Nikon Rumors has posted what appears to be an update to Nikon’s mirrorless roadmap which shows the Nikkor Z 70-200mm f/2.8 S lens as having already been announced. This differs slightly from the one Nikon released a couple of weeks ago which clearly showed it as yet to be announced.

As with the lens roadmap published two weeks ago, the new roadmap lists announced lenses in blue with not-yet-announced lenses in yellow, but the Nikkor Z 70-200mm f/2.8 S is highlighted in blue.

Here’s how the lineup looked a couple of weeks ago with the same lens highlighted in yellow.

Other than some slight layout changes, the only difference is the colour of that 70-200mm f/2.8 lens listing. If the updated roadmap is true, this suggests that Nikon had perhaps originally planned to announce the new lens during PhotoPlus Expo in New York last week. Obviously, though, that didn’t happen.

But it does make it likely that this will be the next Nikon Z Mount mirrorless lens we’ll hear about. Exactly when that might happen, though, is anybody’s guess. This wouldn’t exactly be the first time that Nikon’s delayed an announcement for a new piece of kit. Hopefully, though, it won’t be too long before we hear some more news about this one.
